How many of you get sweaty palms, a shaky leg, or catch yourself judging others in the waiting room? Did you raise your hand!
Planning and preparing for your job interview is scary but be being thrown in an interview with a room full of men can be even more intimidating!
The truth is however, that nailing your job interview comes down to your insecurities and confidence as a woman. Many women do not truly understand their self worth and inner confidence which is why many end up selling themselves short during a job interview or job promotion.
The key to getting the job is being yourself and showing a sense of confidence. No confidence doesn’t mean cocky! It means an understanding of your worth, your skill set, and your value as a woman!
Being in a room of men isn’t the problem, it’s our mind that is the culprit. Deep down inside, sometimes subconsciously, you are telling yourself that these men are superior to you. We need to begin to tell ourselves that we are equal so that when we do walk into a room full of men we can embrace them and see them as our friends and brothers instead of bad men that are judging us as women.
It’s time to change our thoughts, our misconceptions, and become introduced to 2015.
The truth of the matter is that men need us just like we need them. Men under leadership roles understand how important it is to have women on their team and by their sides. The past is a different story but these days men are right by our side and we as women need to change with the times and realize its no longer them holding us back, but ourselves!
Statistics show that women lose promotion opportunities, miss landing the job, and often stay complacent in the work force due to their lack of confidence! Women hold themselves back and lack taking risk because they tell themselves “I’m not ready!” It’s been proven that men are way more confident then women even when they know only 20% of the facts of information! An overwhelming percent of men “fake it til they make it!”
I challenge you ladies to jump into life with the same mentality! Take risk, go for that next job promotion, walk into that interview with self worth, and “fake it till you make it!”
Here are some tips to help you crush your interview as a woman and land the next job!
Look at the Facts:
First and foremost take a step back and look at the facts! No company has the time to bring people in for an in person interview unless they see something great in the applicant on paper. This means you are half way done! They love how you represented yourself through your resume otherwise they wouldn’t waste their time sitting with you! This is a fact that you need to continuously tell yourself while you’re sitting in the waiting room and during the interview!
Words of Affirmation in the Mirror:
Before and during the interview process tell yourself positive words of affirmation that amp you up and get you excited about you! Tell yourself in the mirror what you have to offer, how you can add to the company, and what the company can do for you! Telling yourself great things will make bragging about yourself easier!
Write Down What You Have to Offer Ahead of Time:
Before you head into the interview you want to have a strong sense of what you can do for this company. First do some research to figure out what their mission is and what they need. Secondly, write down all the things that you can add to the company and how you can build and promote growth in their workforce. Third, read this over and over again and say it in the mirror until you feel extremely confident. When you walk into the interview use that same passion you had earlier and tell them why you are what they need and equally as important why you need them!
Practice, Practice, Practice:
Mock interviews are the best thing you can do to prepare for a job interview! Ask some of your friends or family members to join in on a mock interview so you can prepare and practice your responses. If it’s men that you’re more intimated by have all your male friends do the interview. Practice in an environment that’s uncomfortable for you so you can truly prepare for the real thing!
Get Out of Your Own Way:
Remind yourself the only thing getting in the way of you and the job is YOU! Confidence can kill your opportunities and truly hold you back. So push your demons aside and be the women that you were meant to be; strong, confident, and capable of anything!
Now go out there and kill that job interview!
