The Power of the Mind The Power of the Mind
The blessing of being human is the fact that we have a consciousness. Unlike animals, we have the ability to choose and to act upon our free will. Animals do not have free will. A horse cannot become a painter or violinist anymore than a rose can choose to become a tulip. A tree is rooted to where its seeds have been planted. If ants wish to invade the tree, there is little the tree can do. And even a horse, if a man wishes to tame a horse and breaks its will to be free, he can.
Man has dominion over the land and in the end, in spite of the horses wild and free nature, man can do what he wishes to the horse including killing it if he chooses to do so. The Power of the Mind
The human mind is not stuck inside its skull like the tree is rooted to the ground that supports it. Our mind is NOT like the horse, in that, ultimately there will be a force greater than our own that can control it. Although adult abuse survivors may feel they are being controlled by others, the truth is, it is only the belief that others can control them that is holding them back.
The mind IS like a horse and a tree in that it can get stuck and run wildly at the same time. Adult abuse survivors feel like their minds are running all over the place while their bodies, spirits, relationships, careers and alike make them feel stuck. We are vacuum sealed wild spirits who have been enslaved by the abusive and dysfunctional beliefs created by others that have been stored in the subconscious mind. The Power of the Mind
The only way out is by going within. The Power of the Mind
You are the horse and you are the rider as well. And in addition, you are the consciousness wishing to learn how to tame the horse that is your mind. You are everything and everything is you.
Today, consider the power you hold within you to be able to tame your thoughts, confront your beliefs, and direct your life where you wish it to go.
Coming face to face with the enormous power we have over our lives can be overwhelming and especially after a life lived believing we were powerless to the will of others. The Power of the Mind
Change does not come in one giant step. Like learning to talk, we make the sounds ‘da da’ and ‘ma ma’ first. Tame one thought–tame one emotion–tame one belief today and you are on your way to being able to claim and even say, I Am ‘supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’, which means, ‘I Am extraordinarily good’.
And you are Dear One…you truly are.article by lisa a. romano
The 52 Week Money Saving Challenge and Special HackARTICLE BY WHITNEY HANSEN
If you’ve spent any time on Pinterest searching around for money saving tips or money saving challenges, I’m 99.9% certain you’ve come across the 52 Week Money Saving Challenge.
It’s fun, fairly easy to implement and helps you save $1,378 in 1 year.
For most people, $1,378 is a lot of money. If you are just starting your financial life out, that basically becomes your starter Oh Shit Fund. If you are past your Oh Shit Fund, you can use that savings to help you pay down debt. Or this can be used as extra savings to help you travel the world.
Whatever your goals are, almost $1,400 can go a really long way.
HOW IT WORKS
The whole goal of the 52-week money saving challenge is to keep it so simple that anyone can save money. When you first begin the challenge, you start at week 1.
During week 1 you transfer $1 to your savings account.
Then, as the week’s progress, you’ll transfer the same amount in dollars as the week you are on. For example, during week 5 you’ll transfer $5.
Told ya this is easy!
The cool thing is by the end of the challenge, you will have saved $1,378! That’s a nice chunk of change, right?
A lot of people criticize this savings challenge. Isn’t it better to take equal amounts of money every month and put that automatically in savings?
Yes. And no.
If you are the kind of person who would much rather see the same, consistent amount of money go into your savings account each month and never worry about it again, the 52 weeks money saving challenge may not be the right challenge for you. If this is you- just take $1,378/12 and schedule an automatic savings transfer of $114.83 to your savings account once a month.
But if you are the kind of person who loves to gamify your finances and find a lot of joy in the challenge aspect, then this is a ton of fun and gets really exciting towards the end. Keep in mind that if you started this challenge in January, you’re looking at saving quite a bit of money around the holidays which can cause some potential problems.
HOW TO AUTOMATE THIS CHALLENGE
If you are trying to manually remember to save that money every single week, you might not actually do it or it might get a bit cumbersome that’s why I like to hack this method through automation.
I haven’t tried to do this with my bank, mostly because it seems like a giant pain in the butt.
And, thankfully, you don’t have to.
There are lots of apps that can help you increase your savings, but my personal favorite for this type of challenge is Qapital.
Qapital is a free app, that allows you to set up rules for your financial life. For example, one of the pre-set rules you can use is the 52 week challenge. All you do is link your current checking account with Qapital and it will pull the correct amount of money for each week that you are on. It’s so easy to do!
I’m currently saving for a trip to Machu Picchu. The idea of exploring around this world wonder makes me so anxious and unfortunately, it’s not a cheap trip. I anticipate needing $2,000 for the trip.
I set up a savings with Qapital, selected the 52 week challenge AND the roundup rule (every purchase gets rounded up to the nearest dollar with the roundup being saved) and I just watch the account grow.
I started this in 17 weeks ago and am currently sitting at $249.42. The best part of this is I really don’t miss the money at all. It has not had a negative impact on my life in the least bit and stacking the rules is helping me hit my goal of $2,000 for Machu Picchu even more quickly.
- Try Qapital out today, make your first deposit and we both get $5 deposited towards our savings goals
MY PERSONAL QAPITAL ACCOUNT
You can select your background picture to be something that inspires you. Apparently, I think a ridiculous llama is inspiring. Haha!
But you can really do some cool money challenges with Qapital like setting a budget for eating out of $50 per week and if you come in under budget, it will automatically save the difference. I suspect I’ll cover that in a future post or video.
ALL IN ALL
The 52 Week Money Saving Challenge can be a great way to help you save more money, achieve your financial goals, and start to become a master saver. It takes time to build up a really big savings account, but if you use apps like Qapital or just schedule automatic transfers from your bank account to your savings account, you’ll start to see progress soon!
Take action today and good luck with the money saving challenge!ARTICLE BY WHITNEY HANSEN
How To Feel Your Best When You Don’t Feel Good Enough
One of the most soul-crushing feelings in the world is feeling like you are not good enough. Someone close to you may have caused this feeling or maybe it’s something that you have developed from viewing society as a whole. Whatever the core source is, it’s a completely un-ideal feeling that is totally reversible. How To Feel Your Best When You Don’t Feel Good Enough
When feelings like this arise, there are some important things you should definitely remember.
Your self-worth cannot be defined by an outside source.
Any voice that has told you that you are less than or any advertisement that has made you feel inadequate cannot take away from who you are as an individual. You know exactly how special you are and there is no sentence or idea that can take away from your shine. How To Feel Your Best When You Don’t Feel Good Enough
Society has trained us to think that people we see in adverts are what we all should look like. This is not the case! The most beautiful thing about the human race is how special we all are inside and out. You are a real person, with a real look and a real personality. Never let an outside source determine how you feel about yourself.
You are unique. How To Feel Your Best When You Don’t Feel Good Enough
Like I mentioned above, we are all so special and unique. That is one of the coolest parts of living on this planet. There is no person that will ever be who you are. You are 100% unique and cannot be compared to anyone out there. You are beautiful and one of a kind.
When you’re feeling like comparison is becoming more prevalent in your thoughts or you have someone telling you that you don’t compare, just remind yourself how good of a thing it is. You don’t want to be like everyone else. You want to be unique. Blending in is boring!
A judgmental person is an unhappy person.
If a particular person is putting you down by making you feel inadequate, just remember that they are unhappy with their own situation. Instead of hating on yourself, love yourself enough for both you and that person. Experience the love that the judging heart is missing.
Do not take the words of others personally. They are experiencing their own insecurities that they need to handle on their own time. As hard as it may be, not taking comments to heart will be a game changer in your journey towards building your own confidence.
All in all, combating these thoughts and feelings begins with the work that you do internally. Everything starts with the way you handle these sources. When remembering the three points that have been mentioned above, you will begin to build a solid foundation for handling these awful feelings that come into each and every one of our lives.Article by Taiya Turgeon
5 Benefits Of A Healthy Lifestyle That Will Bring You Into Old Age!
Living a healthy lifestyle is perhaps the single most important thing that you can do to prevent yourself from developing a wide array of deadly diseases that will shorten your lifespan. The benefits of a healthy lifestyle are seemingly endless and all of the things that we are going to mention will contribute to you feeling good and seeing old age without the risk of developing a ton of different diseases. We’re going to talk about the various aspects of living a healthy lifestyle and give you some tips on the way you should live in order to be as healthy a human as you can possibly be!
What Is A Healthy Lifestyle?
For the purposes of this article, it would probably be wise to define what exactly we mean by living a healthy lifestyle. First and foremost a healthy lifestyle means exercising on a regular basis as well as eating a nutritionally balanced diet. Another really important part of a healthy lifestyle involves not drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, doing drugs, or smoking tobacco. If you do all of these things and stay healthy you should be able to grow very old, so let’s look at all of the different benefits of living the way a healthy human should live.
Benefit #1: Living Smoke-Free & Your Health
The fact of the matter is that smoking cigarettes or any other form of tobacco is downright horrible for your health, with one of the worst effects taking place on your cardiovascular system. Smoking tobacco can cause things like strokes and coronary heart disease which is one of the leading causes of deaths in North America.
The effect of cigarettes is so great that even just 5 per day can cause cardiovascular disease. Smoking cigarettes will also cause your heart pressure to rise to an unhealthy level because it causes your blood vessels to thicken and become narrower. This forces your heart to work harder to pump blood throughout your body, ultimately making it work too hard.
Smoking can also cause arterial blockages which ultimately reduce blood flow to the extremities, something which can cause embolisms and clots to form. This is not only very dangerous to your health, but a lack of blood flow also reduces your ability to perform physical activities.
Smoking cigarettes is of course also terrible for your respiratory health. Aside from all of the diseases you get, having an inefficient and unhealthy oxygenation system means that your muscles and extremities are not getting enough oxygen to function properly, something that will greatly impede your ability to perform physical activities.
Besides that, smoking also causes things like emphysema, chronic bronchitis, lung cancer, and other severe respiratory illnesses that can greatly shorten your lifespan. In fact, smoking can cause cancers to appear almost anywhere in your body, not just in the lungs.
There are so many other things that smoking does to your body such as increasing your chances of getting rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, cataracts in your eyes, decreased bone health, decreased dental health, inefficient or damaged sperm, and an inefficient immune system. As you can see, if you want to live a healthy life and grow old, you need to quit smoking tobacco as soon as humanly possible.
Benefit #2: Limiting Your Alcohol Consumption & Your Health
Another thing that you should avoid as much as possible for the benefit of your health is alcohol. Now we aren’t saying that you can’t have the occasional drink with friends, but the overconsumption of alcohol is definitely not good for you.
One of the biggest negative effects of drinking alcohol, especially way too much, is that it lowers your immune system’s ability to fight off infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, the flu, and other virus and bacteria-borne diseases. A single heavy night of drinking can lower your immune system’s ability to fight off these things for up to 24 hours, plus it also increases your chances of contracting them in the first place.
Moreover, drinking too much alcohol of any kind can greatly increase your risk of developing various types of cancer. Just some of the types of cancer that alcohol is known to cause include mouth, throat, esophagus, liver, and breast cancer, all of which are of course not desirable in the least.
Drinking way to much liquor can also cause your pancreas to release toxic chemicals in your body, something which leads to pancreatitis, an inflammation of the blood vessels in the pancreas that inhibits the proper digestion of foods.
Of course, one of the main effects that alcohol has on your body has to do with the liver. Your liver is the thing that ends up filtering out the alcohol in your blood, therefore too much of it can cause things like cirrhosis, fibrosis, alcohol hepatitis, and steatosis (fatty liver). All of these diseases will greatly shorten your lifespan and are all known to be fatal in the long run.
Drinking too much liquor and alcohol is also very bad for your heart and can cause things like cardiomyopathy, which is the stretching of the heart muscle, arrhythmias, stroke, and high blood pressure. Once again all of these things can prove to be fatal to human health. Too much alcohol can even cause your brain function to lower, lower coordination, disturb your thought process, and cause major mood swings too.
Benefit #3: Limiting Your Consumption Of Sugar & Your Health
The next part of living a healthy lifestyle involves eating a proper diet and one of the most important things to doing that is to limit your intake of sugar. Sugar can have some disastrous effects on your health, all of which we are going to talk about.
First of all, sugar is what we like to call empty calories, meaning that it does give us short bouts of energy, but it doesn’t actually contain any nutritional value and doesn’t contribute to our health in any way. The general rule is that a maximum of 15 percent of your daily calories should come from sugar, and that is being very generous. Moreover, sugar is just very bad for your teeth and causes cavities and other major mouth related diseases.
Next, many sugars contain a type of sugar known as fructose, something which is especially bad for your liver. Eating way too much fructose can cause your liver to turn that fructose into fat, thus causing you to develop a disease known as a fatty liver, something which can be fatal over a prolonged period of time. For a long time, it was thought that only alcohol could cause a fatty liver, but that is now known to be inaccurate.
Moreover, eating too much sugar on a daily basis can cause an insulin resistance in your body, this lowering your body’s ability to effectively deal with and digest sugars. An insulin resistance is known to be the major cause of several health issues such as obesity, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease, and worst of all, type II diabetes. One of the worst parts about eating too much sugar is that it can actually cause you to develop various types of cancer.
One of the worst parts about eating too much sugar is that it causes the brain to release a lot of dopamine. Dopamine is something that makes us feel happy and elevates our mood, the problem is that it is highly addictive and we keep wanting more of it. Since sugar creates dopamine releases we keep eating more and more of it, thus increasing our chances of developing any one of the sugar-related diseases that we have mentioned above.
The bottom line is that sugar can cause a whole variety of diseases in your body, worst of all being cardiovascular disease and obesity, both things which come with a wide array of their own consequences.
Benefit #4: Getting Your Vitamins & Minerals
We aren’t going to go very in depth about every single vitamin and mineral out there, but we definitely want to give you a rough idea of what it means if you don’t get enough of them. The sad fact of the matter is that many people do not get enough of these nutrients, especially so in places like America and Canada.
First of all, not getting essential vitamins and minerals such as Vitamins A, C, and E, as well as different antioxidants, can cause your immune system to be weak and not be able to fight off various infections. Getting these vitamins and minerals is not that hard because they are contained in a variety of leafy greens, nuts, beans, whole grains, poultry, and red meat.
Another thing that you are at risk of if you don’t get enough minerals is the development of brittle bones, which can lead to breakages and things like osteoporosis. One of the most important elements in preventing brittle bones is calcium, among several other minerals. The easiest way for you to get enough calcium is by eating various dairy products, soy-based products or vegetables such as broccoli, cucumber, or celery.
Moreover, not getting enough vitamins and minerals such as vitamin B12, niacin, iron, and Vitamin C can lead to gum degradation, tooth loss, gum disease, and other forms of oral diseases that can put your health at risk in the long run. It is also shown that a severe vitamin and mineral deficiency can cause mental problems, especially when it comes to mood stability and the ability to remember things in both the short and long run.
Benefit #5: Regular Daily Exercise & Your Health
There are so many different things that exercising on a regular basis can do for you. Perhaps one of the best things that it does is to increase your mood, make you happier, and decrease the effects of things like anxiety and depression. Exercising regularly causes your brain to release several different chemicals, with one of the most important ones being serotonin, something which can make you feel happier in both the short and long run.
Another major benefit of exercising on a regular basis is that it helps to control your weight and it helps to prevent obesity, something which is a leading cause of various major and fatal diseases. Regular exercise helps to prevent things like diabetes, various types of cancer, it helps with controlling your blood pressure, it can prevent metabolic syndrome and strokes, and it helps control good and bad cholesterol levels too.
The next big benefit of getting regular exercise is that it improves your energy levels and it does so through a variety of means. First off, regular exercise boosts your metabolism to work in overdrive, meaning that more of the foods you eat get rapidly converted into both short and long term energy instead of being stored as body fat. Moreover, it helps to boost energy by facilitating the delivery of oxygen and vital nutrients throughout your body. Not only will you have more energy during the day, but regular exercise will also help you sleep better during the night time.
In our opinion, one of the greatest benefits of regular physical activity is that it can boost sexual relations for both men and women. Women are shown to increase their arousal with regular exercise and men are shown to experience fewer sexual problems such as dysfunction when engaging in regular daily exercise. For men, testosterone gets released and created during exercise, something which is very important for a healthy sex life.
As you can see, living a healthy lifestyle has so many different benefits that we can hardly keep track and count them all. The benefits of a healthy lifestyle all arise from 5 main points that we have discussed. Those points being a limited consumption of alcohol, not smoking tobacco, getting your vitamins and minerals, reducing your intake of sugar, and engaging in regular daily exercise. Together these 5 aspects can really help to keep you in top shape for a very long time and lead you to old age with ease!

I’m Floating My Stress Away!
Admittedly, I am a high-energy, focused, and ambitious career woman who works very hard. While my career brings me great satisfaction and achieving a new goal gives me an adrenaline rush, I find it hard to sit still, let alone relax. I exercise hard to honor my body and it’s rare that I am not on the go.
I prefer a walking meditation to the lotus position and I can only quiet my brain from the monkey chatter for short intervals that usually last a few minutes. So what’s a driven, passionate woman who gets stressed about relieving her stress to do?
This week I experienced floating and it truly changed my life. For 90 minutes (yes, 90!) I floated effortlessly in a tranquil, warm, 10-inch bath of Epsom salt and for the first time I felt the profound peace of quiet, solitude, and utter relaxation.
A Place to Float is a newly opened premier Float Spa and Flotation Therapy Center in Indianapolis and I am sure to become a frequent floater. The feeling of being suspended in an open pool of body temperature warm water was peaceful and meditative. The darkened, private room made me feel like I was floating in outer space and it provided me with a peaceful mental clarity that allowed me to just “be” and not think about anything. My inner monkey chatter was silenced and for the first time ever – I achieved a blissful meditative state of peace and quiet.
After 90 minutes, you shower in your private float and spa room to rinse off the healing Epsom salts, which detoxify your body – an added benefit. Salon quality shampoo, conditioner and lotions await you with plush towels to complete the luxurious experience. Then it’s on to the quiet lounge to hydrate with fruit infused water before you go back into the bustling world.
What surprised me most was the days-after effect of floating. While the 90 minutes was blissful beyond explanation, I experienced a renewed mental clarity and heightened creativity that was exhilarating. I’m told floating is a practice (like yoga) and I will continue to hone my unique physical and cognitive benefits after floating more frequently.
I can see this as an essential practice for those with chronic pain or for athletes who take their bodies to the extreme on a regular basis. But it also works for those like me who really need a practical way to relieve stress and truly unplug. The after-float glow leaves you feeling like you are walking on air and my evening sleep is deep and peaceful – just the way I like it.
This New Year, I am focusing on how to honor my body, mind and spirit. Not easy for a Type A, tightly wrapped and ultra focused achiever. Floating will help me surrender to stress relief without any effort at all. I urge you to try this one-of-a-kind experience to allow yourself to relax, renew, and rediscover your best self!
