Guest Speaker for Episode #82 Faisal Attrache
Today we have a very unique guest, someone who is truly an inspiration to us all! Today we will be speaking to Faisal Attrache about finding your purpose and truly following your heart! We will be discussing his motivation behind continuously making films and how he followed his heart to be where is today!
Faisal was born in Syria and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. He attended UCLA where he majored in International Development and Environmental Studies, with a minor in film. After graduating from UCLA, Faisal moved to Syria for a year to study Arabic and get to know his homeland. He left Syria a few months after Arab Spring protests first broke out. Thus began the tumultuous roller coaster that would become an overarching theme in his life, as it has for most Syrians. He received his MFA in Film and TV Production from the prestigious USC School of Cinematic Arts in Los Angeles. Faisal directed a short documentary called “Growing Home” about a Syrian refugee barber in the Zaatari Refugee Camp in Jordan. It has screened at over twenty international film festivals, winning several awards, and has served as an educational tool at numerous events, fundraisers and lectures. Faisal recently moved to Amman, Jordan to pursue a lifelong goal of making a film about his great-grandfather, the leader of the Great Syrian Revolt of 1925. He is also committed to empowering and educating Syrian refugees, and is working with non-profit Voices of the Children on starting a workshop-based film school for refugees and undeserved locals in Amman.
